About

A caption-first editor, built in the open

What ClipCaptioner is

ClipCaptioner is a free online video editor built around one belief: captions are not an accessibility extra or a paid add-on — for most social video, watched silently in a feed, captions are the video. So we built the editor around them: karaoke word-highlight styles, a caption track you can edit line by line, and caption files you can download for free.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser. When you open the editor and add a video, the file stays on your device — editing, captioning and rendering all happen locally. That design choice does three things at once: it keeps your footage private, it makes the editor fast (no uploads, no render queues), and it lets us offer the editor for free without charging you per caption minute.

Who it's for

Creators posting to TikTok, Reels, Shorts and beyond; small businesses making product clips; teachers, coaches and community organizations that need captioned video without a subscription. If you've ever exported a video and found a watermark stamped on it, this site was built for you.

How it's run

ClipCaptioner is an independent product, supported by advertising so the core editor can stay free. We publish our roadmap on the features page and label anything that isn't finished yet — no selling features that don't exist. Questions or feedback: get in touch.

Our editorial standard

Every feature claim on this site is tested against the real product before it appears. If something is in development, it says so. If a browser can't do something, the page says that too.
